Spic Macay`s `Fest 2008` kicks off with Flute recital by Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia

Press Release Summary: Recently (on 21st January) FEST 2008 by SPIC MACAY, a series
of classical music and dance at schools & colleges all over India was inaugurated
with a Flute recital by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia & Hindustani Vocal by Smt. Ashwini
Bhide Deshpande. The inaugural programme was orgranised at Miranda house, North
Campus, Delhi University. Celebrating the 60th year of Miranda House, the concert
was dedicated to Dr. Aruna Sitesh, the late Principal of Indraprastha College for
Women, University of Delhi, Delhi.

The programme kicked off with Flute recital by Pt. Hariprasad Chuarasia, who in his
natural style performed brilliantly and made the students, guests and others present
there swing to the tunes of his flute. After the Flute recital, Smt. Ashwani Bhide
Deshpande continued the musical extravaganza started by Pandit ji. The concert was
preceded by a Nadaswaram recital by the troupe led by Shri Kandaswamy.
On this occasion Dr. Kiran Seth (Chairman, Spic Macay) said, this event is a humble
effort to create awareness of our heritage amongst the youth. He said \"Fest 2008\"
will continue till April 2008 where all the programmes in the series will be held in
schools and colleges throughout the country, featuring performances by some of the
eminent artists like; Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Fahimuddin Dagar, Pt. Birju
Maharaj, T.N. Krishnan, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Uma Sharma, Shubha Mudgal,
Priyadarshini Goving, Pt. Rajan-Sajan Misra and many others.
Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC
MACAY) seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of this rich and heterogeneous
cultural tapestry amongst the youth of this country through focus on the classical
arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and to
facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values.
